Happy #IndependenceDay Ghana! Today marks the 61st anniversary of freedom from the Brits. Ghana holds a special place in my heart because it was the 1st African country that I visited. This is also the 1st colonized country to gain its independence in Africa. In honor of this special day I’m posting 5 Facts about Ghana-the Gold Coast. 1. The Kejetia Market is the 3rd largest in Africa with over 45,000 stores.

2. Elmina Castle was the 1st European trade post built in Africa

3. Ghana has the most castles and forts in Africa, more than 20.

4. The Cedi is the most issued African currency.

5. Hosted the 1st convention on the Rights of a Child (CRC)
