African Lip Plates

One of the 5 tribes in the “Black Panther” masterpiece was the River tribe. It was impossible to miss the huge plates they used to pierce their lips. The movie is labeled as a science fiction but the majority of it’s components were borrowed from real African cultural elements.

In the past top lip plates were worn by various African tribes, such as the Makonde of Tanzania & Mozambique. This is no longer practiced in this region. However, the southern Ethiopian tribes of Mursa and Surma are the modern tourist attractors. They still use lips plates but it is only used on the bottom lips of woman. Black panther progressively chose a fly young man in a money green suit to represent for the River tribe.
